  • Before I start, this review is primarily based on the environment and atmosphere of the church.

A good friend of mines goes to this church and he encouraged me to go to one of the services that they hold every Wednesday. My first walk into the church and it almost feels like your walking into a mini-concert. Wave Church is definitely more youth driven in a more contemporary style of worship that includes a big stage, lights, cameras, screens, christian bands, and an overall young enriched environment. I love the fact that people can gather together as a family and share the Gospel of God which is important for any church. However, coming from a more conservative/traditional upbringing in church, Wave achieves in attracting teens to young adults which explains the ratio to older mature adults. Aside from Wave Church's cinematic elements (which is meant to enhance these worship services); this place is a place of worship and should always be treated with respect & humility.

Bottom line, if you prefer a more contemporary style of worship than a traditional way of worship; then this is the place to be.

  • The praise music is great. I love the words are on the screen. The sermons are from the Word, different pastors will preach so you get different input, and the facility is beautiful and clean and the volunteers are kind.

  • Been attending for 18 yrs, have an amazing son who's fruitful & on fire for God due to the positive impact Wave Church has made in his life. Now have twin daughters that also love the Lord because this is such a dynamic, interactive, caring & youth friendly Church. Glory be to God for Wave Church!

  • You either love this church because you understand its heart and mission, or you hate it because it's not what you're used to and you didn't come in with an open mind. I initially was a little skeptical myself, but the more I see of their heart and their vision, the more I am convinced that God is doing something here. Honestly, if you look at the fruit of this church, the amount of missions work, and service it does in Virginia Beach, I don't understand how you can dislike it. Yes, it's not your "typical church" - but it might just be more effective than your "typical church". The people who lead here are phenomenal and truly love God, life, and people, and if you would just take the time to know them and talk to someone about your differences, you would probably see that. I absolutely love Wave and am so grateful for all that it does. It has a fantastic heart for serving people and God and changing people's lives along the way.

  • When I attended Regent University, I was trying to figure out where I should go on Sundays. I did go to one church before I went to Wave with a friend. It was good, but the people seemed a bit distant. One Sunday, I got up late so I couldn't go to church that morning. I decided to look at Wave Church's website, and lo and behold, they provided transportation to pick up at Regent. Since I couldn't go that morning, I decided to go that evening. At first, I was a bit skeptical with the worship part, because I was used to the black style of worship, but I listened to the sermon, and they were awesome, and Bible-based. As I kept going, I started to enjoy the worship services, and I went in both the 11AM & 6PM services.
I do recognize that they talk about money, but for a good reason. It's not about the pastor or the congregants, but it's about God and helping others toward Christ. They show where the tithes, offerings, and donations are going towards. The money is not just going towards expanding Wave Church, but to help and spread the Gospel to local communities, this nation, and people around the world. Give what God has placed in your heart, and leave the rest up to Him. Yes, Wave Church has its flaws like all churches have, but they have a vision and they are doing the best they can to make sure that God gets the fame and that He is being preached throughout the world. The church should be a reflection of Christ, and not a place where we sit and complain about what's happening in the world. Instead, the church should be about giving Christ-centered solutions. Wave Church may be a big church, but big doesn't always mean bad. Wave Church may be culturally relevant, but they don't compromise the Word of God. Wave Church's style of worship may be out of many of our leagues, but it's all about worshiping God and not ourselves. Unfortunately, I graduated from Regent, and I had no choice but to move back to Suffolk, so I'm currently not attending Wave. I miss Wave and I hope to go back soon. God bless.
